Who's Your Hero?
Wonder Woman? Batman?
Maybe someone more familiar ...
The stories we heard about heroism growing up gave us the notion that heroes possess superhuman abilities that allow them to perform fantastical feats. It's a captivating idea in comic land that doesn't translate into real life. After all, why are we looking outside ourselves for heroism, instead of within? What kinder, braver thing can we do than become the hero we're hoping for, for ourselves + others?
Ralph Waldo Emerson had a lot to say about this topic. We highly recommend taking time this Sunday to enjoy his epic essay: Self Reliance.
Here's the little gem of a quote that inspired it:
"Our acts our angels are."
